President Barack H. Obama

Note:  You might want to start at the Barack Obama Index Page, especially if you arrived here by using a search engine.

Barack Obama's political views are out on the extreme left, way out of step with most Americans' views.  I predict that the United States will move a long way toward becoming a socialist welfare state if Obama is elected.

On this page:

Extreme left-wing radical liberalism.

Extreme left-wing radicalism

Barack Obama's Lost Years:  The pages of the Hyde Park Herald and the Chicago Defender thus offer entrée into Obama's heretofore hidden world.  What they portray is a Barack Obama sharply at variance with the image of the post-racial, post-ideological, bipartisan, culture-war-shunning politician familiar from current media coverage and purveyed by the Obama campaign.  As details of Obama's early political career emerge into the light, his associations with such radical figures as Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger, Reverend James Meeks, Bill Ayers, and Bernardine Dohrn look less like peculiar instances of personal misjudgment and more like intentional political partnerships.  At his core, in other words, the politician chronicled here is profoundly race-conscious, exceedingly liberal, free-spending even in the face of looming state budget deficits, and partisan.

Obama's Strategy of Socialist Conquest.  Even the Soviet Union's dramatic collapse and Eastern Europe's emancipation did not diminish the vitality of socialism and its Marxist ideology.  In one of the most dramatic reversals in history, Marxism evolved with a new strategy and found a new home in the United States, gaining renewed vigor and influence within the Democrat party.  The architect of the new strategy was Barack Obama, an ardent Marxist who possessed a deeper understanding of Marxism than most of his modern counterparts.  Obama has challenged fundamental tenets of the ideology.

Obama's Mad Dash Continues.  Beneath Obama's hope-and-change veneer, his past legislative and vocal record (cf. his Senate partisanship, his statements in his memoirs, his spread-the-wealth, clingers, typical-white-person gaffes, his talk of single-payer health care and reparations, etc) were hard left, left even of Pelosi and Reid.  The Van Jones appointment was logical, not an aberration.

All the President's Nuts.  Neither Jones nor any of the "progressive" bloggers or media "journalists" who have rushed to his defense have explained exactly what that "vicious smear campaign" or "lies and distortions" are.  As national talk show host and Fox News host Glenn Beck reported, Jones himself claimed to be a communist radical who wants to change "to a whole new system."

Obama And The Great Weaknesses Of Reasonable Men.  The people who run the Democratic Party today are radical liberals and Obama himself has more in common with Castro or Brezhnev than he does with, say John Kennedy or Harry Truman — but a lot of the negatives about Obama, but those things are so alien to their way of thinking that they can't truly believe he means what he says.  He wants skyrocketing energy prices?  Can't be!  He wants to bankrupt the coal industry!  No way. ... He supported a complete ban on handguns.  That must have been a mistake!

Send Obama packing via the 14th Amendment.  I find myself ambivalent concerning Barack Hussein Obama's birth record and since so many columnists and bloggers have dedicated reams of text about that subject, I felt it better to look at another side of the issue of Presidential legitimacy.  With regard to what Obama has done as both a private citizen and as an elected official of this country, has he by his own actions made himself ineligible for high elected office?

The Most Radical Czar of All.  He's got ties to domestic terrorists, believes babies who survive abortions do not deserve protection and for decades embraced a mentor who thinks America deserved what it got on that horrific day eight years ago.  And he's the most powerful czar of them all:  Barack Obama.

Is Obama a socialist?  Obama has declared that he believes every person has a "right" to health care.  The Socialist Party USA believes every person has a "right" to health care.  Obama believes that labor unions should be allowed to organize without a secret ballot.  The Socialist Party USA calls for unions to be recognized without a secret ballot. ... The Socialist Party USA calls for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.  Obama says "I will end this war," with never a reference to "winning" or "victory."  The Socialist Party USA calls for the "unconditional disarmament" by the United States.  Obama has promised to dramatically reduce defense spending.

Obama's radicalism: Destroying the Constitution.  The U.S. Constitution exists for one reason.  To protect us from men like Barack Obama, who is perilously close to being handed the power to begin undoing that protection.

The most liberal voting record in the Senate

Obama's Leftism:  The Senate has a particularly rich tradition of such bipartisanship, but Obama appears never to have participated in it.  On the contrary:  according to Congressional Quarterly, which measures how often each member votes in accordance with or at variance from the majority of his own party, Obama has compiled one of the most partisan of all voting records.  Last year, for example, the average Senator voted with his own party 84 percent of the time; Obama voted with his party 96 percent of the time.

Factors that Could Lead to Obama's Downfall:  Barack Obama has the most liberal voting record in the U.S. Senate.  Most far left liberal policies are not terribly popular with American voters, but if the Democrats control the White House and all of Congress, voters will have essentially given them a blank check to do just about anything they want.  One only has to look at the extreme liberal voting record of Barack Obama, as well as the liberal agendas and records of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to see what they can expect in an Obama presidency.

Most Liberal Fella.  In January of this year the National Journal published its rankings of all U.S. Senators.  What they found has given Barack Obama his new title:  the most liberal Senator of 2007.  This was no back-of-the-envelope exercise but a careful analysis by a decidedly a-political outlet of ninety-nine votes.  So how was it that Obama beat out such liberal all-stars as Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Russ Feingold?

Obama's credibility gap is visible.  Politician Obama rose through a Chicago machine that is notoriously the most corrupt in the country. … He has the most solidly left-wing voting history in the Senate.  His one act of bipartisanship, a transparency bill co-sponsored with a Republican senator, was backed by everybody on both sides of the aisle.  He has never challenged his party's line on any issue of substance.

Why Barack Obama Will Not Win.  The Democratic Party has a terrible track record at the presidential level since the 1960s because it consistently nominates far left presidential candidates who do not represent the values, interests, and aspirations of most Americans. … Barack Obama is no exception.  In his brief tenure in the U.S. Senate, Obama has compiled a consistently liberal voting record, and was named the Most Liberal Senator for 2007 by the National Journal.

Obama's Top Ten Flaws That Will Cost Him in November:  Although Obama has attempted to shift to the center since he captured the Democratic nomination, his record is one of radical liberalism.  In fact, he was ranked as the single most liberal senator in 2007 by National Journal, actually supported a complete ban on handgun sales, and wants to hand out 845 billion dollars to foreign nations as part of an effort to "elimin(ate) extreme poverty."

A Shooting Liberal Star.  In his rhetoric, Mr. Obama is a centrist, stressing a theme of post-ideological, bipartisan political transformation.  There is no "red" or "blue" in his "one America."  Yet look closely at his policy agenda and you see that he has by far the most liberal program of any Democratic nominee since George McGovern in 1972.

Obama votes cast him left of his own party.  Sen. Barack Obama will portray himself Thursday night as an agent of change for mainstream America, but his eight-year voting record in the Illinois Senate shows the Democrat was on occasion an agent of isolation who took stands — particularly on anti-crime legislation — that put him to the left of his own party.

Barack McGovern Clinton:  It is not by accident that National Journal — a respected, non-partisan publication — named Obama the most liberal person in the Senate in 2007.  In a chamber that includes Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, that is, in its own way, quite an achievement.

The Real Barack.  Obama was given an 8 out of 100 lifetime rating (meaning he is one of the most liberal lawmakers) by the American Conservative Union, a conservative group that issues a report card on the voting records of members of Congress.  Likewise, the liberal group, Americans for Democratic Action, rated Obama's voting record in the Senate at 97.5 percent, near perfection for liberal Democrats.  The National Journal even named Obama the most liberal Senator in 2007.  So what exactly was he voting on that made his rankings so liberal?

Obama:  Most Liberal Senator In 2007.  Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was the most liberal senator in 2007, according to National Journal's 27th annual vote ratings.  The insurgent presidential candidate shifted further to the left last year in the run-up to the primaries, after ranking as the 16th- and 10th-most-liberal during his first two years in the Senate.

Two Left Feet:  When Ted Kennedy endorsed Barack Obama, he was symbolically passing the Kennedy torch.  But it was Ted's torch of liberalism, not the JFK torch of tax cuts and a fervent defense of freedom.  That the torch would be passed to Obama is fitting, for he's done something few thought possible — compile a record more liberal than Ted's.

Barack Obama's Stealth Socialism:  Before friendly audiences, Barack Obama speaks passionately about something called "economic justice."  He uses the term obliquely, though, speaking in code — socialist code.  During his NAACP speech earlier this month, Sen. Obama repeated the term at least four times. … "Economic justice" simply means punishing the successful and redistributing their wealth by government fiat.  It's a euphemism for socialism.

Be Afraid.  Please.  [Scroll down]  If the voters elect Obama as president, they'll be putting Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in untrammeled control of our future. … If you don't like the Congress in which Senator Obama serves in the majority right now, you really should be alarmed about a President Obama rubber-stamping the deeds of a Democratic Congress next year.

Obama on the record:  Candidate Barack Obama frequently promises to soar above partisan politics.  But the theatrics of such declarations keep bumping into the reality of Mr. Obama's left-liberal record in Washington and the left-liberal record in Illinois state politics which preceded it.  The latest reminder:  As recently as 2004, Mr. Obama supported decriminalizing marijuana, opening relations with Communist Cuba and providing health care for illegal aliens.

Obama's Extreme Liberalism Still Under the Radar.  The thing that drives Republicans craziest about Barack Obama is that they can see it coming.  They know that behind the dulcet intonations of togetherness and unanimity lies a politician whose beliefs are uniformly liberal. … If Republicans are unsuccessful in framing Obama's personal liberalism in political terms, they will likely be in for a very long four years.

Obama in Plain View.  The Democrats have gone all the way.  They have nominated arguably the most left-wing major party presidential nominee ever, certainly the most left-wing since George McGovern. ... If he wins with the kind of larger Democratic majorities he is likely to see in the House and Senate, he will be in the strongest position of any Democratic president since LBJ in 1964.

Obama:  'Most liberal?'.  The NYT looks at the National Journal rating of Obama as the most liberal member of the Senate and the fallout it could cause.  "In many ways, the Obama campaign is challenging the fundamental political premise that has prevailed in Washington for more than a generation:  that any majority coalition must be carefully centrist, if not center-right.

Mikhail Sergeyevich Obama.  Consider the similarities:  Gorbachev represented a generational change from Brezhnev and his short-lived successors.  Obama represents a generational change from the likes of Jesse Jackson.  Gorbachev never intended to bring down communism, only to reform it.  Obama says he backs racial preferences but is not wedded to their current form.  Gorbachev was a media darling.  Obama … well, if Time does a "person" of the decade in 2010, can there be any doubt who it'll be?

Obama builds a record of liberalism.  Obama, who objects to ideological labels, wins high marks from progressives on environment, abortion and labor issues, as well as on civil liberties and education, all of which are vital to winning the Democratic Party's presidential nominating process. … Last year, Obama got 100 percent scores from the AFL-CIO, League of Conservation Voters and Planned Parenthood and an "A" rating from the National Education Association on their most recent scorecards.

[Obviously he "objects to ideological labels" because the only possible label is "left-wing liberal."]

Dreams From His Grandmother:  I think we are beginning to see the full measure of the Obama general campaign strategy, framed along ten or so key directives that can allow the election of the most leftward candidate in American political history.  So far the candidate himself needs no coaching, inasmuch he has proved to be one of the most pragmatic, flexible, and ambitious figures in recent memory, with superb handlers who understand the challenge of getting such a hard leftist past the suspicious American electorate.

Liberal ideology, Marxism and Anti-Americanism

Like Father, Like Son.  Barack Obama's economic blueprint sounds like one his communist father tried to foist on Kenya 40 years ago, with massive taxes and succor shrouded as "investments."  As a Nairobi bureaucrat, Barack Hussein Obama Sr. advised the pro-Western Kenyan government there to "redistribute" income through higher taxes.  He also demonized corporations and called for massive government "investment" in social programs.

Obama Says Not Being a Communist is Selfish.  During the waning days of the US presidential campaign, Barack Obama is feeling confident enough of his chances that he — at a recent rally — didn't dispute his being a Socialist.  Obama was even a member of the New Democratic Socialist Party in the 1990s.  Perhaps he will at some point even admit that his true intention for the USA is Soviet-style Communism.

Comrade Obama?  If this is not the socialist redistribution of wealth, what is it?  A steeply graduated income tax has always been the preferred weapon of the left for bringing about socialist equality.  Indeed, in the "Communist Manifesto" of 1848, Karl Marx was himself among the first to call for "a heavy progressive or graduated income tax."  The Obama tax plan is pure Robin Hood class warfare:  Use the tax power of the state to rob the successful and reward the faithful.

All the News That's Fit to Censor.  Obama can deny it all he likes, but anyone who subscribes to the belief that we should adopt a fiscal policy based on "From everyone according to his abilities to everyone according to his needs" is a disciple not of Warren Buffet, but of Karl Marx.  Still, as some cynic once observed, when you rob Peter to pay Paul, don't expect Paul to raise any objections.

Capital Punishment.  Democratic nominee Barack Obama touts his tax plan as just a way to "spread the wealth."  But to us it looks like something quite different:  a declaration of war on capital.  Obama has described his plan to hike taxes as "neighborliness," "patriotism" and "justice."  In fact, it's the widest-ranging assault on capital — and those who create it — in at least a generation, possibly longer.

If we elect an admitted socialist president, we'll deserve what we get.  [Scroll down slowly]  After 70-plus years of ascendant socialism, this country today would be recognizable to Thomas Jefferson only as the realization of his worst fears.  That Obama wants to make a final and irreversible hard-left turn is apparent not only from his few unguarded utterances this year, but from much of what he said and wrote before his presidential campaign.

Obama's vision is far from that of Founding Fathers.  Pushing back on accusations from John McCain that he's a socialist, Barack Obama said, "I don't know what's next.  By the end of the week, he'll be accusing me of being a secret Communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten.  I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich."  Once again, we get the Obama oratorical fog.  The problem isn't what he does with his toys or sandwich, it's what he sees as legitimate to do, under authority of government, with mine and yours.

Barack Obama And The Economics Of Sesame Street:  While most Americans find it distasteful, if not blasphemous, to single-out a minority group for undue maligning and punishment, Senator Obama has made "profiling" of a "minority group" a normative thing.  We're not talking here about a racial or cultural or sexual minority.  We're talking about a socioeconomic minority — the more economically productive people in our society, or, to put in Obama-speak, the group he vaguely defines as "rich people" — and punishing this minority group is, by his definition, "fair" and "neighborly."

McCain must state the obvious: Obama is a socialist.  Incredibly, Obama thinks that a huge and complex market like health care, where a few hundred million Americans spend almost two and half trillion dollars a year, can be improved with more government controls and spending.  And he thinks that parents, in a country that is supposed to be free, should not be given control over where they send their child to school and the type of education their child gets.

How Obama Applies Alinsky's Rules:  Obama is following almost to the letter the blueprint for socialist revolution drafted by the father of community organizing.  While [Saul] Alinsky may help him behind the scenes, however, he becomes a liability when brought out of the shadows.  Sarah Palin proved this in St. Paul when she ridiculed his community organizing.  Within hours, Obama surrogates whined about how just bringing up the phrase was racist code for "black."  No, it's code for communist.  And McCain should make that point instead of legitimizing such radicalism ... .

Time to Use the "C" Word.  Even without the power of the Presidency, a filibuster-proof Senate, and U.S. Supreme Court appointments under his belt, Obama has already:
 •  called for a national citizen military force;
 •  sent government agents to intimidate American citizens who have said they don't agree with him and will not vote for him;
 •  tried to use the offices of state Attorneys General to silence any opposition or dissent;
 •  proposed his version of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need;"
 •  trained, funded and utilized organizations like ACORN that are notorious for voter registration fraud;
 •  consorted with and funded terrorists and anti-American radicals;
 •  attended a church led by a racist, black supremacist, anti-American bigot;

Obama Affinity to Marxists Dates Back to College Days.  Barack Obama laughs off charges of socialism.  Joe Biden scoffs at references to Marxism.  Both men shrug off accusations of liberalism.  But Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn to socialists and even Marxists as a college student.  He continued to associate with Marxists later in life, even choosing to launch his political career in the living room of a self-described Marxist, William Ayers, in 1995, when Obama was 34.  Obama's affinity for Marxists began when he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles.

A World Without America:  What do Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Barack Obama have in common?  The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Democratic candidate for president of the United States of America have both chosen to spend much of their lives in the company of people who are virulently hostile to this country.  At least some of them seek to bring about, as Ahmadinejad puts it, a "world without America."

Chicago Commune:  Sometimes we've wondered if Obama needs to be reminded that the U.S. is a republic, not a commune.  Now we are sure.  His gross misunderstanding — or intended misrepresentation — of what neighborliness means confirms it.  While it might be neighborly for the person "sitting pretty" to privately help the minimum-wage-plus-tips waitress, there is nothing neighborly — or patriotic — about using the coercive powers of the state to seize more of his legally earned income and to interfere in personal affairs that are of no business to the government.

The Obama Left:  The American left can be divided into three distinct strands, each with its own characteristics, identifiers, and methods of operation: the wimp left, the weird left, and the hard left. … The extraordinary thing about Barack Obama is that he's intimately connected to all these factions in a way that may never quite have been the case before.

The Prophet Obama, Global Leader of Godless Leftism.  Obama believes in the god of Marx.  He believes, as well, that he is the great prophet of this secular religion.  People in less sophisticated areas of our nation may cling to the God of the Bible, but Obama, like other European Leftists, knows that Das Kapital is the only Holy Scripture which is eternally and immutably true.  Obama has studied the writings of fanatical monks like Saul Alinsky, and taken to heart their message of winning at all cost.

It's Americanism vs. Socialism on November 4th.  "I think that when you spread the wealth around it's good for everybody."  There is so much wrong with not only this statement but this ideology it's hard to know where to begin, but I'll start with this:  Senator Obama... it's not your money to give!  Wealth redistribution is one of the core tenets of Socialism.

Obama and Declinism.  Obama's message is only optimistic in that it takes for granted that the U.S. has already hit rock bottom.  You can pick an Obama stump speech at random and find multiple references to America's broken promises, failed ideals, dejected citizens, and disappointed friends.

Fully invested in your misery.  Obama seems happier these days.  It is almost as if the disembodied spirit of his mentor, Saul Alinsky, is watching and smiling.  Americans are suffering.  Losses in the stock market, panic in the financial market, pain at the gas pump and in the grocery -- all these miseries of average Americans are a delicious narcotic to socialists like Barack Obama.  What was the historic maxim of the Left?  "The worse, the better."  Alinsky said that if there was an afterlife, "I will unreservedly choose to go to hell."  This is the man whose mind guides Obama's thoughts.

Phony 'Emergency'.  Barack Obama's newly unveiled "Emergency Economic Plan" is quite a document, sounding more like the rantings of an extremist fringe candidate than a serious contender for the presidency.  The six-page package is a doozy, replete with populist ideas that will wreck the economy and leave us poorer.  The only real emergency we should worry about is the debacle that would follow its passage.

Union Man.  [Kim] Bobo could be an obvious choice for the Obama Labor Department, perhaps as head of the Wage and Hour Division that was the subject of the hearing.  Her group already works closely with WHD, and her positions on labor issues are identical to Obama's.  It was unfortunate that Bobo did not deliver the most provocative part of her testimony orally:  In a written document submitted before the hearing, she called for an expansion of the number of Wage and Hour investigators from 750 to "more than 12,500" — this is a factor of more than 16, and such an expansion would nearly double the size of the entire 15,000-employee Department of Labor.

Obama:  Stealth Socialist?  As this long primary season drags on, the presumed Democratic nominee for president still won't bring his vision for "change" into focus.  He continues to speak in glittering generalities, providing few details.  The reticence, combined with Obama's radical ties, begs the question:  Is he hiding an un-American agenda?

Long-lost article by Obama's dad surfaces.  Parts of the article, titled "Problems Facing Our Socialism," have been making the rounds on several small blogs over the past week, but Politico is now reproducing the entire piece in its original form online for the first time.  The scholarly eight-page paper credited to "Barak H. Obama" is never mentioned in Dreams From My Father, nor has the candidate discussed it in any of his many public speeches.

Pushing Obama to the left:  The presumptive Republican nominee … continues to stake out the political center on some key issues, pushing his unanointed Democratic rival to the left.  In fact, the way things are going, it is Obama, not McCain, who is in danger of losing his bearings and getting boxed into positions that won't appeal to white working class voters and many other constituencies he will need to carry if he wants to win the White House.

Barack Obama Pays Radicals to Staff His Campaign.  Barack Obama is all about unification.  There's only one problem:  the people who comprise [sic] his staff are some of the most extreme leftists in the country.

Obama:  More Endorsements — Castro, Ahmadinejad, Ahmed Yousef, Hugo Chavez, Farrakhan.  While Obama states that the Democratic race for the nomination will be decided (in his favor) in six days — he keeps racking up a long list of endorsements from terrorists, lunatics and racists.

The Democrats' recurring nightmare:  The Party of the Little Guy appears to be caught in what Marxists like to call a contradiction.  Their rhetoric is all about compassion and helping, and taking care of the unfortunate.  But their political philosophy is anchored in elitism:  the notion that the government (and the elites running it) know better than Everyman what is good for him. … It turns out that Obama is as much of a snob as Kerry, albeit with a wife who thinks she is poor when they earn a million bucks a year, and feels aggrieved at the cruel way America has treated her.

Media Blackout On A Far-Left Past.  [Scroll down]  CNN glossed over his late Kenyan father's own radical politics by leaving it up to him to describe his "reputation."  "My father had this reputation as being this larger-than-life figure, charismatic, very smart, very engaging," Obama said, "and all those things were true."  It's also true that as a Nairobi bureaucrat, his father proposed a socialist economic plan for Kenya so radical it got him blackballed from the government.  CNN left that part out, while also omitting Obama's recent support of Raila Odinga, a Communist-trained politician in Nairobi.

DeLay:  'Unless Obama Proves Me Wrong, He Is a Marxist'.  Former House Republican Leader Tom DeLay (Texas) called Barack Obama a "Marxist" on the Mike Gallagher radio show Thursday.  Explaining that Obama clinching the Democratic nomination is a good thing for John McCain, DeLay said Obama's "weakness" is that "nobody knows him."  "And if McCain does not define him as what he is -- hey, I have said publicly, and I will again, that unless he proves me wrong, he is a Marxist," DeLay said.

How Does Obama Feel About America?  In search of answers that go deeper than the Congressional Record, I read his first book, "Dreams from My Father:  A Story of Race and Inheritance."  Once you get past the happy surprise of finding a politician who can actually write, the book contains some disquieting elements. … Left-wing ideas are not so much articulated in this memoir as presumed.  Obama has claimed that his experience living abroad gives him a valuable perspective for a chief executive.  Yet his reflections on the effect Western capitalism has had on Jakarta and Chicago's south side sound like warmed over Herbert Marcuse.

The questions that hang over Barack Obama:  [Obama] is seen more as a Chablis-sipping intellectual than someone Joe Sixpack would want to go bowling with.  Combine his initial refusal to wear an American-flag lapel pin, pictures of Obama declining to salute the flag and his failure to visit injured soldiers at their Berlin hospital, with his unusual background, and it is not difficult to understand why voters are nervous at the prospect of this elegant, eloquent politician becoming commander-in-chief of the world's only superpower.

Evangelicals rip Obama's abortion votes.  "We're not endorsing a candidate," lead organizer Lou Engle said.  "We're challenging politicians who say they're Christian but have voted 100 percent for late-term abortions and partial-birth abortions."  He added, "I don't want to be courted by his Christianity or his charisma, but by his voting record."

Obama:  America not a model for the world?  A video clip taken from Obama's Dreams from My Father Book Signing, on New York on 11/23/2004 is burning up the internet.  In it he appears to see America today as not a model for the world.

Obama is dangerously unfit to be president.  Obama's allegation that the "rich" do not pay their "fair" share of taxes is nonsense.  Almost 50 percent of American families pay little or no income tax under present law, and the top 10 percent of earners pay 90 percent of what the federal government realizes from the income tax.

Obama's Abortion Challenge.  Senator Obama has justified his strenuous objection to the Illinois bill by claiming that differences from the federal bill are the reason.  This claim is false.  The Federal legislation and the Illinois legislation were in fact virtually identical. ... The candidate has been burnishing and airbrushing his history as November nears.  One aspect of this effort is his attempt to recreate his own political history involving abortion.

Obama's Abstract Patriotism:  When Barack Obama gave a speech on patriotism, he equated patriotism with the abstract concepts of "sacrifice" and "service to a larger cause."  Senator Obama does not understand what patriotism is — or how it works.

Is America really going to do this?.  McCain believes in protecting and defending America as it is.  Obama tells the world he is ashamed of America and wants to change it into something else.  McCain stands for American exceptionalism, the belief that American values are superior to tyrannies.  Obama stands for the expiation of America's original sin in oppressing black people, the third world and the poor.

Obama Can't Be Trusted on National Defense.  Obama has spent his whole life swimming in a sea of left wing extremism.  Can we trust these national defense issues to such a man?  What about his left wing, anti-Israel, foreign policy advisers who have said the way to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is for Israel to unilaterally destroy its nuclear deterrent?  What left-wing extremists will Obama appoint to Defense, State, and the Energy Department that oversees our own nuclear deterrent?  The answer is no, we cannot trust Barack Obama with our national defense.  A mistake here could lead to deep suffering for the American people.

Rahm Emanuel and the Classless Society.  Several of my friends voted for Obama on the premise that he would, when elected, govern from the center and not the far Left.  Their anger with Bush and the Republicans drove them to a willing suspension of critical thinking.  His selection of Emanuel as Chief of Staff is one early signal that their critical thinking yielded to wishful thinking.

Nationalizing and radicalizing the public schools

Public Schools Change Young Evangelicals' Values.  Barack Obama's selection for secretary of education is his crony Arne Duncan, who most recently made news by recommending the creation of a Chicago Social Justice High School-Pride Campus, where half the students would be homosexuals and the other half straight.  Somehow that school was canceled just about the time that Obama announced Duncan's appointment.

Obama and the Independent School District:  The signature initiative of an Obama campaign for a second term would be nationalizing public education, kindergarten through grade 12.  If it happens, say goodbye to the Independent School District (I.S.D.) as we've known it.

Ayers' Agenda: First-Grade Guinea Pigs.  Our first-grader astonished her father at the end of the past school year as he dropped her off at her D.C. public school, Horace Mann Elementary, where he had attended school in the early 1960s.  She told him that her teacher announced her impending marriage — to another woman — to the class.  Following her revelation, this teacher encouraged questions from the children.  Our daughter also mentioned a book the teacher read aloud, "Uncle Bobby's Wedding," about two male "gay" guinea pigs, promoted by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender Lobby for children.

Obama's Education Idiocy:  As it turns out, the Obama-helmed CAC was directing big bucks toward the propagation — in Chicago public schools — of the whack-job racist ideology most famously preached by Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.  That's the bottom line of research on CAC documents by Stanley Kurtz of the Ethics and Public Policy Center.  For example, the Obama-led foundation funneled more than $200,000 to an outfit called the Coalition for Improved Education in South Shore.  Its mission:  training public-school teachers in "Afrocentric" education ... .

Obama High: No child left benign.  Elected officials in Chicago made international news last week by proposing to create a public high school for gay, lesbian and transgender students. ... Yet no American journalist covering the presidential race has queried the Chicago-based Sen. Barack Obama about this radical development in education reform:  a key issue to which the young senator has committed much of his public life and all of his executive experience.

Obama's National Public Education Plans:  When commentators accuse Obama of trafficking only in vapid bromides it means they've not read his campaign materials.  The ethereal vagaries of his pep-rally speeches given on past election nights do not convey the full scope of his plans for federal social activism.  Those are only spelled out in his written campaign materials.

The Real Obama Part II.  Sex education for kindergartners is just one of many issues on which Barack Obama has lined up consistently on the side of arrogant elitists of the far left.  Senator Obama's words often sound very reasonable and moderate, as well as lofty and inspiring.  But everything that he has actually done over the years places him unmistakably with the extreme left elitists.

Obama-Run Foundation Gave Millions to Liberal Groups, Including One Run by Bill Ayers.  The "small schools" concept promoted by Ayers with the help of the CAC grants focuses on public schools that usually have no more than 500 students.  In Chicago, some of these schools conformed to Ayers' leftist political vision.  [They include] The Peace School, which "integrates topics of peace across the curriculum. ... The Global Village school, which "has a diverse student population with a curriculum focused on high academic standards and global citizenship for students."  The Al Raby School, named for a former civil rights leader and environmentalist, which has a "focus on community and the environment" and ... the Cesar E. Chavez Multicultural High School.

Not The School Curriculum He Knew?  Even if Obama is never queried on whether he was the only adult in Chicago unaware of Ayers's Weather Underground background, shouldn't someone ask why he was working for and helping to fund an organization which supported this type of curriculum?

Obama's Real Problem With Ayers:  At an education forum in Venezuela, Bill Ayers showed the real issue is not his terrorist past.  It's the socialist revolutionary agenda that he and Barack Obama want to impose on the nation's schools.

Did someone mention Bill Ayers?

Obama Words That Matter.  Read the speech Obama gave to the graduating class, on Senator Kennedy's behalf, at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut to get a whiff of the audaciousness (it can mean "imprudent" as well as "bold") of his intentions.  To include, "I will pay our educators what they deserve and give them more support, but I will also ask more of them to be mentors to other teachers, and serve in high-need schools and high-need subject areas like math and science."  Just who is "I?"  Shall we say goodbye to the Independent School District concept?  A more inquisitive MSM would probe his intentions….

Is Obama spiking Kindergarten Kool-Aid?  On Monday, I wrote about Presidential hopeful Barack Obama's education bill, S.2111, The Positive Behavior for Effective Schools Act of 2007 and its intent to achieve important social outcomes (emphasis added) to the elementary and secondary student population.  Given that it was William Ayers, the unrepentant terrorist and founder of the Weather Underground who served as "Collaborative" co-chair, crafting education policies to Obama's chairmanship in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), that reportedly directed more than $100-million for radical activists, I thought nothing could be more eye-opening.

Obama's Little Red Schoolhouse.  When Barack Obama collected the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers, he told the teachers that support for alternatives to the education monopoly amounted to "tired rhetoric about vouchers and school choice."  He recently told an interviewer that he opposes school choice because "although it might benefit some kids at the top, what you're going to do is leave a lot of kids at the bottom."  Not being left behind are Obama's daughters, who attend the private University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.  There, tuition ranges from $15,528 for kindergarten to $20,445 for high school.

Obama's Shell Game:  Senator Obama wants to "create jobs."  So where does he propose to send the $50 billion? … The money would bail out spend-thrift state governments that have saddled themselves — and the taxpayer — with ridiculous and wasteful public employee union contracts.  Remember, nearly half of all money spent by the states goes to fund education.  And education has become a bottomless pit of spending to appease the radical NEA teachers union.

Will Ayers and Obama radicalize our schools?  The gist is that all education — even science — can be seen as an avenue to influence the minds-the ideology and politics of our children, beginning at an early age.  One of Ayers' peers who teaches with him, Eric Gutstein, is a Marxist ideologue who has politicized his math classes.  He programs our future teachers to teach our children about fractions by using the inequities of wealth under capitalism, for example.  This has become not a lunatic fringe in our nation.  The ability and willingness to teach such "social justice" has in many school districts become de rigueur and a condition of hiring.

Michelle's Boot Camps For Radicals.  Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993.  Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps.  He calls his Orwellian program, "Universal Voluntary Public Service."  Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas.  They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they'll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of "social change."

Backward Barack.  Obama — himself a poster child for the efficacy of school choice — has a unique chance to invigorate the public-private debate in education.  Instead, he panders to teacher unions by expressing disdain for the "tired rhetoric about vouchers and school choice."  So much for the politics of change.

Obama unveils 21st Century New Deal.  President-elect Barack Obama added sweep and meat to his economic agenda on Saturday [12/6/2008], pledging the largest new investment in roads and bridges since President Dwight D. Eisenhower built the Interstate system in the late 1950s ... The president-elect also said for the first time that he will "launch the most sweeping effort to modernize and upgrade school buildings that this country has ever seen."  "We will repair broken schools, make them energy-efficient, and put new computers in our classrooms," he said in the address.

The Editor says...
Note to Mr. Obama:  There is nothing in the Constitution that authorizes federal spending on education.  (The word "education" is not in the Constitution.  Read it for yourself sometime.)  Even so, there have been billions of dollars spent on education over the last few decades, and one thing has been proven:  Red herrings like energy efficiency and computers do not contribute to educational success.  Those are conveniences for the unionized teachers who campaigned for you.  If you insist on spending taxpayers' money, it would be better to spend it on larger prisons.  Visit a public high school and you'll see what I mean.

More Radicalizing of Higher Education Ahead.  In 2008, Congress disbanded the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) because according to the website Inside Higher Ed, the panel "had become too politicized."  If the previous committee was "too politicized" to permit its continued existence — its big sin was to press for establishing universal, easily understood, quantifiable academic standards — then what are we to make of way the Obama administration is loading up the newly formed NACIQI with diversity advocates and left-wing activists?

The Ministry of PropOganda.  [Scroll down]  Yet when educational institutions are systematically teaching their young children to chant phrases supporting Barack Obama's political agenda...well, there's just no harm in that.  School children singing in support of the notion of "spreading the wealth around":  "Hooray, Mr. President!  We honor your great plans to make this country's economy number one again!"  Children too young to know the meaning or implications of Obama's proposed "change" involving expansive government infrastructure, yet creepily singing:  "Obama's gonna change it, Obama's gonna lead 'em, we're gonna change it, and rearrange it."  And most recently, children innocently singing the nonpartisan phrase "Who do we know is the man?  Barack Obama is our man!  He's our man, yes he can!"  All this, though... it's all innocent in the eyes of the left.

Making America bilingual

Obama:  Kids Should Learn Spanish.  Obama has consistently opposed making English the official language.  As an Illinois senator, Obama voted against a measure to make English the official language of the United States in June 2007.  He was one of 34 senators who voted against the measure.

Lost In Translation.  No matter how humiliating Obama finds our monolingual ways, there's good reason why Americans don't have to speak foreign languages while others must speak English:  The U.S. has unprecedented influence in international affairs, an indispensable role in global markets and economic superiority.  Simply put, we are the world's dominant nation.

What's Spanish For Hypocrite?  [Obama says] Americans must learn Spanish!  Here's the thing, though:  Barack Obama, who holds several impressive first-tier degrees, "doesn't speak Spanish."

English embarrasses Obama.  Senator Barack Obama says his fellow Americans are "embarrassing" him.  Why?  Because we don't speak enough French. … As it happens, Obama is wrong on the facts.  He may say dismissively that all immigrants will learn English, but the left-leaning Pew Hispanic Center reports that only half of all Hispanic immigrants who have achieved citizenship speak English well, or even somewhat well.  And that's the number for citizens.

'It's embarrassing,' &c.  You are probably familiar with this semi-infamous statement of Barack Obama:  "Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English — they'll learn English — you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish."  But you may be unfamiliar with what came next out of Obama's mouth….

Petty partisan politics

Barack Clinton Obama.  [Scroll down slowly]  Senator Obama has claimed as president he'll be able to rise above partisan politics — yet he has done very little to work with Republicans on major, controversial issues.  Obama is not only the most liberal person in the Senate but also one of the most reliable Democratic votes.  He has voted against such outstanding Supreme Court nominees as John Roberts and Samuel Alito.  No person who is serious about acting in a "post-partisan" manner would have cast those votes or acted the way Obama has during his Senate career.

The Obama Enigma:  Obama's campaign shrugged when legal doubts were raised about the sloppy voter registration practices of ACORN -- an organization that Obama himself has both helped and praised.  Yet Obama once was a stickler for proper voter documents.  In 1996, he had all of his Democratic rivals removed from the ballot in an Illinois state primary election on the basis of sloppy voter petitions.

It's not about Obama's race, it's about policies.  Where's the change?  For all the talk of change coming from the Democratic side, what few specifics I hear sound strikingly the same as what we have come to expect from Democrats.  Let's see:  raise taxes, more and bigger government programs, no drilling in ANWR, etc. ... What's new about that?  That's same, not change.  Barack Obama thinks these are the things the American people want.  If that's true, then why isn't Obama running away with this election?

Bitter Pill.  Even if Obama were less deluded and empty, it would still be hard for him to keep a New Frontier-style sham going, given the tedious glare of 24/7 media coverage.  Remoteness helped launch JFK's Camelot.  Today's multimedia familiarity breeds contempt.  He is an "Ivy League scold," says the Washington Post, quoting a Democratic party observer who gives that as the summary explanation for his recent rough patch.  His chip-on-her-shoulder, finally "proud of America" wife and "God d*** America" spiritual mentor have hardened this image of him as an elitist and stealth radical.

Hillary's Tears Might Be Start Of Real Debate.  [Scroll down] As Bill Clinton correctly, if clumsily, complained, Obama gets a free pass from the press. ... The freest of all passes to Obama is the general neglect of the obvious central contradiction of his candidacy — the bipartisan uniter who would bring us together by transcending ideology is at every turn on every policy an unwavering, down-the-line, unreconstructed, uninteresting, liberal Democrat.  He doesn't even offer a modest deviation from orthodoxy.

Reparations for slavery, affirmative action

Obama's Stealth Reparations.  While he was an Illinois state senator, Barack Obama told a Chicago radio show host that he sought "major redistributive change" for the benefit of fellow blacks.  He was speaking in the context of the civil rights movement, and how it had fallen short of "economic justice."  Although John McCain and other Republicans are afraid to say it, his remarks can only be interpreted to mean one thing:  economic reparations for slavery.

Obama and the Drive for Slavery Reparations.  Barack Obama is the most radical candidate ever to stand at the precipice of acquiring his party's presidential nomination and the American presidency.  It is apparent that he is a member of an international socialist movement which hopes to use the United Nations as a vehicle to shake down U.S. taxpayers for trillions of dollars in slavery reparations.  One group, the African World Reparations and Repatriation Truth Commission, is demanding an astronomical $777 trillion.

Meet Obama's Reparations Model.  While some question the impact of preaching from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ on Senator Obama's thinking, the influence of one of Trinity's most recommended authors on Obama is clear.  Three of Randall Robinson's books are available for purchase on Trinity's website.  One, entitled "The Debt:  What America Owes To Blacks," is particularly important to understanding Obama's notion of reparations.  So who is Randall Robinson?

Does Obama Favor Slavery "Reparations?"  Barrack Obama's pastor not only spews anti-American rhetoric from the pulpit but favors shaking down U.S. taxpayers for "reparations" for slavery.  The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright was the keynote speaker at the 2007 annual conference of N'COBRA, which stands for the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America.

The Race Minefield:  It was a moving speech [at the 2004 Democratic National Convention], filled with hopeful sentiments.  But two years later, Senator Barack Obama, with two years' experience in the Senate and his eye on a presidential run, taped a radio ad attacking the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI), going out of his way to defend racial preference policies that by their very definition divide Americans into blacks, whites, Latinos, and Asians.

Democratic Chickens Coming Home to Roost.  Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are both leftwing Democrats.  They both rabidly support affirmative action and multiculturalism (AA/MC), which form the entire foundation of Obama's political career.

Reparations Rising.  In addition to [Jeremiah] Wright, apparently one of the jivin' high fivin' congregants in total agreement with this principle is one Dr. Iva Carruthers.  She is a self-declared active member of the church, self-declared advocate of reparations and more importantly, an "Obama-declared" member of Obama's African American Religious Leadership Committee.  (We are not sure who heads up McCain's White Religious Leadership Committee).  And on and on go the pro-reparations messages and efforts with deep roots to not only the TUCC, but in fact all of Chicago and certainly to the Obama campaign leadership.

Check, Please.  There is little for Obama to gain by endorsing reparations.  If ever there was a candidate who has no need to pander to the descendants of slaves, it is Barack Obama.  Democratic presidential candidates can usually count on upward of 90% of the black vote, and Obama racked up similar percentages in a hard-fought primary battle.  On the other hand, in order to attract votes among nonblacks, Obama needs to guard carefully his postracial credentials.

On the other hand ...
Obama opposes slavery reparations, apology.  "I have said in the past — and I'll repeat again — that the best reparations we can provide are good schools in the inner city and jobs for people who are unemployed," the Illinois Democrat said recently.

Reparations By Another Name.  'I consistently believe that when it comes to … reparations," Obama recently told a gathering of minority journalists, "the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds." … He says government should offer "universal" programs — such as universal health care, universal mortgage credits, college tuition, job training and even universal 401(k)s — that "disproportionately affect people of color."  In other words, reparations by another name.

Pie-in-the-sky plans for a leftist utopia

Beware:  Obamutopia.  [Scroll down] His policy proposals do sound strikingly utopian — almost as if he's saying we truly can achieve perfection, end poverty, eradicate health care problems, establish universal harmony, legislate away all corruption, and attain wholesale energy independence without, by the way, liberating ourselves from the shackles of enviro-policemen, who forbid us from exploiting our own resources.  Obama's pitch to fawning audiences is so hopelessly idealistic and his promises so painfully unrealistic that it's amazing he's taken as seriously as he is.

Obama's Health-Care Tipoff:  The goal, like HillaryCare in the 1990s, is to displace current private coverage and switch people to the default government option.  What's new is Mr. Obama's smoother political packaging.  With good reason, critics often call this a back-door route to a centrally planned health-care bureaucracy.

Obama the Savior:  [Scroll down]  Saving souls is hard work, and Mrs. Obama won't place the whole burden on her husband.  He'll make the Americans work for him.  As she put it, "Barack Obama will require you to work.  He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism.  That you put down your divisions.  That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zone.  That you push yourselves to be better.  And that you engage.  Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed."  At base, Mrs. Obama's statement is nothing less than a renunciation of democracy and an embrace of fascism.  The basic idea of liberty is that people have a natural right to live their lives as usual and to be uninvolved and uninformed.  And they certainly have a right to expect that their government will butt out of their souls.

Obama's Civilian National Security Force:  [Obama] plans to double the Peace Corps' budget by 2011, and expand AmeriCorps, USA Freedom Corps, VISTA, YouthBuild Program, and the Senior Corps. Plus, he proposes to form a Classroom Corps, Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, Veterans Corps, Homeland Security Corps, Global Energy Corps, and a Green Jobs Corps.  Here a corps — there a corps — everywhere a corps corps.

Welcome To Camp Obama.  Voters coast-to-coast are receiving e-mails from the Obama campaign encouraging them to sign up to learn pre-election agitation tactics at "Camp Obama." ... When readers first alerted us to the camps, we thought it might be another hoax that migrated into inboxes.  But it's for real.

Obama's 'Civilian Security Force' Prompts Questions.  He favors expanding AmeriCorps from 75,000 slots to 250,000 slots, geared at tackling issues such as education, energy and health care.  He would double the size of the Peace Corps to 16,000 and would send Americans fluent in foreign language abroad to "expand diplomacy."  Under the plan, all middle and high school students would be required to do 50 hours of community service, and it would establish a $4,000 per year tax credit for college students who volunteer for 100 hours of volunteer service.

The Editor says...
That's a $40-an-hour "volunteer", funded by the taxpayers.  In other words, it is nothing more or less than socialism.

Obama in Leftland:  Obama has proposed a "civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded [as the military]."  Later he seemed to say (maybe) that this organization would support the military in noncombat duties.  But in that case, why does it have to be so powerful?  Whatever he had in mind, he was obviously not bothered by the ugly historical overtones of muscular national police forces or parallel armies.  History is full of such organizations, from the Committee of Public Safety wreaking bloody havoc in revolutionary Paris to the immense terror-force of the Stalinist NKVD to Mao's murderous Red Guards.  Because Obama (evidently) does not listen to history, he seems to have no sense of its hints and warnings.

Obama:  Fear and the Security Force.  [Scroll down slowly]  Most of us have heard Obama state that "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the military.  This alone is enough to send shivers up an informed spine, but it gets even worse when you hear the specifics.  Obama intends to use a radical activist group he helped found called "Public Allies" as the model for, as IBD puts it, "...his Orwellian program, 'Universal Voluntary Public Service.'"

Utterly chilling video of Obama Freikorps.  First came the disturbing video of very young children singing the praises of Obama, in the style of North Korean children hailing the transformative powers of the Dear Leader.  Now comes equally or more disturbing video of older children, this time in uniforms, marching and proclaiming that "because of Obama" they will achieve various accomplishments.

The Sweet Illusion Of Socialism:  We've come far from promises of "a chicken in every pot" to Barack Obama's June 3 declaration that "the chance to get a college education is the birthright of every American."  When did it become a birthright?

Obama oil plan may weaken emergency stockpile.  Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's plan to release oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve may lower crude and gasoline prices in the short term, but it could also leave the United States more vulnerable in a supply emergency.

The Sixties Won't Go Away.  Barack Obama, a child during the '60s, is imbued nonetheless with that decade's "hope and change" messianic sermonizing.  Now he wants a new mammoth government-funded "civilian national security force," one "that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the Pentagon.  Sounds utopian, but at a time of record aggregate national debt, are we really going to borrow another half-trillion dollars a year to fund a kinder, gentler version of the military?

Justice, American-Style.  Over international objections, a foreign-born killer of American citizens is executed in Texas.  Would this be allowed to happen in the administration of "citizen of the world" Barack Obama?

Obama Confirms Relationship with CPUSA Member.  [Scroll down slowly]  Joyce Nalepka, president of Drug-Free Kids: America's Challenge, points out that recovering cocaine addicts say that the high from cocaine is so intense that you never stop wanting it. ... Don't you believe Obama when he says he quit drugs?  "No," replied Nalepka.  "And I didn't believe Mayor Barry either."  However, she does believe that, if Obama is elected, his backers in the drug legalization movement funded by billionaire George Soros will press for legalization of marijuana, cocaine and other dangerous drugs.  Soros is a big backer of Obama and has contributed financially to his campaign.

Radical environmentalism

Obama to Declare Carbon Dioxide a Dangerous Pollutant.  Barack Obama will classify carbon dioxide as a dangerous pollutant that can be regulated should he win the presidential election on Nov. 4, opening the way for new rules on greenhouse gas emissions.  The Democratic senator from Illinois will tell the Environmental Protection Agency that it may use the 1990 Clean Air Act to set emissions limits on power plants and manufacturers, his energy adviser, Jason Grumet, said in an interview.

Obama:  Go green now.  Barack Obama took a big risk Monday in his first trip to Michigan as a candidate for president:  He told the leaders of a region heavily dependent upon the auto industry that the Big Three should increase fuel mileage by 4 percent — about a mile per gallon — each year.  That was not the message they wanted to hear.

Questions for Barack Obama:  Senator, you've described global warming as "one of the greatest moral challenges of our generation," calling for reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050.  Yet you also describe yourself as an "agnostic" on nuclear power, which should be used only "if (your emphasis) we can make it safe" — as if it were not already producing 20 percent of U.S. electricity.  Given that U.S. energy demands are certain to rise, how do you propose cutting greenhouse gases by 80 percent without either crippling the economy or building scores of nuclear plants with zero carbon emissions?

Knights of the Planet Gore.  The Democratic nominee-in-waiting arrived for his speech outlining our post-oil, post-SUV future in three gigantic, gas-guzzling SUVs.  Then — taking a cue from Al Gore — Obama mounted the stage to declare a ten-year goal of ending our "addiction to oil" … or at least the oil from "the entire Middle East and Venezuela" (he also declared an end to war, and to human aging).

Obama Proposes Deep Greenhouse Gas Cuts.  "As president, I will set a hard cap on all carbon emissions at a level that scientists say is necessary to curb global warming, an 80 percent reduction by 2050," he said.  He proposed a modified "cap and trade" approach to reduce emissions, requiring businesses to buy allowances if they pollute, creating an incentive to reduce energy usage.  "No business will be allowed to emit any greenhouse gases for free," he said.  "Businesses don't own the sky, the public does, and if we want them to stop polluting it, we have to put a price on all pollution."

The Editor says...
Apparently Mr. Obama thinks the government should (or does) "own the sky", in the same way that the FCC presumes to own the radio spectrum.

Obama's Bad Example.  Barack Obama plans to lower our standard of living to fight climate change and make the world love us.  The last time you may be able to drive your SUV may be to an Obama rally. … Obama is talking about taking Reagan's shining city on the hill and turning it into a little house on the prairie.

Obama's climate solution:  tyranny.  Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama promises that, as president, he will mandate — that is, compel — a national reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 and an 80 percent reduction below 1990 levels by 2050.  He says (in his policy papers) that he will accomplish this transformation in energy use through "cap-and-trade," the fashionable means to a fashionable end. … Assuming for the moment that he wins the presidency in November, can Mr. Obama keep his commitment — and, if so, what costs and consequences will ensue?

Obama Supporters for $10 Gas.  "The people at this rally made the mistake of telling the truth about the left's energy policy," [Ed] Frank told Townhall in an email.  "From the ban on American oil drilling to proposed global warming legislation, the entire point is to drive up the cost of oil and gas so Americans are forced against their will to use alternative energy sources that by and large aren't viable.

The Audacity of Wishful Thinking:  In an off-the-teleprompter comment from Springfield, Missouri, the less-than-one-term Illinois Senator, Barack Obama, recently remarked that Americans could save as much fuel as might be obtained from offshore drilling merely by tuning up their cars and keeping tires properly inflated.  Since the MSM hasn't seen fit to accurately publicize this amazing insight, I must insist that the senator's complete Obama-fuels program be immediately broadcast to the nation.

Birds of a Feather.  Having failed to impress any of those who have not already succumbed to the constant Obama-beat of the mainstream media, Barry and the boys have decided to tackle the energy crisis.  Their grand plan predictably calls for a reduction in consumption, government investment into the development of alternative fuels, and windfall profit taxes on the evil oil companies.

The Air Apparent.  The Saudis must be laughing their heads off.  Can we expect Jimmy Carter to be Obama's secretary of energy?  Keeping your tires properly inflated can improve your gas mileage by about 3%.  Most new cars don't need tuneups for the first 100,000 miles.  And even all the hot air from Obama's speeches would not make a dent in the 20 million barrels of crude we consume daily.

Hidden Audio: Obama Tells SF Chronicle He Will Bankrupt Coal Industry.  Imagine if John McCain had whispered somewhere that he was willing to bankrupt a major industry?  Would this declaration not immediately be front page news?  Well, Barack Obama actually flat out told the San Francisco Chronicle (SF Gate) that he was willing to see the coal industry go bankrupt in a January 17, 2008 interview.  The result?  Nothing.

Palin Attacks Obama on Coal Production.  Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin unleashed a new volley against Barack Obama on a four-city tour of Ohio on Sunday [11/2/2008] by touting newly released audio comments made by the Democratic presidential candidate promising to restrict the construction of new coal-fired power plants in the U.S.  The issue is particularly sensitive in coal-rich Ohio, West Virginia, and Colorado.  Obama made the comments to the San Francisco Chronicle in January, which were posted on YouTube over the weekend.

Coal official calls Obama comments 'unbelievable'.  At least one state coal industry leader said he was shocked by comments Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama made earlier this year concerning his plan to aggressively charge polluters for carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.

Socialized medicine

Ruin Your Health With the Obama Stimulus Plan.  Republican Senators are questioning whether President Barack Obama's stimulus bill contains the right mix of tax breaks and cash infusions to jump-start the economy.  Tragically, no one from either party is objecting to the health provisions slipped in without discussion.  These provisions reflect the handiwork of Tom Daschle, until recently the nominee to head the Health and Human Services Department.  Senators should read these provisions and vote against them because they are dangerous to your health.

Kennedy's 'Right' Is Wrong.  When Sen. Ted Kennedy, valiantly fighting brain cancer, took the stage at the Democratic convention on Monday night, he made it clear that he is now on a mission that cannot be completed unless he returns to the Senate next year — with Barack Obama in the White House.  Kennedy's quest is to socialize medicine in America.

Beware of ObamaCare.  Just as other promises of entitlements to the American public, this one requires new taxes, far more intrusive government bureaucracy, a trust in government over the American people in the most personal decisions of all, and a naive belief in health-care fantasies rivaling even former President Jimmy Carter, who shockingly proclaimed in a 2002 address to the people of Cuba in support of Fidel Castro's dictatorship that Cuba has ["]superb systems of health care and universal education" while admonishing America's government for withholding the "right" of universal health care from its people.

Change to Think Twice About:  Around the world, single-payer systems keep costs down by rationing care.  A Cato Institute study found that in Norway, health care is funded through general tax revenues (taxes consume 45 percent of GDP).  But Norwegians commonly travel abroad to avoid long waits.  "Approximately 280,000 Norwegians are estimated to be waiting for care on any given day (out of a population of just 4.6 million)."  In Britain, "delays in receiving treatment are often so long that nearly 20 percent of colon cancer patients considered treatable when first diagnosed are incurable by the time treatment is finally offered."

Just How Stupid Are American Voters?  If the Socialist Obama is elected, we can expect businesses to flee this country to more friendly locations overseas.  They will take jobs and cash out of our economy and tax revenues out of our national coffers.  Socialized medicine will bring the destruction of our healthcare system.

Barack Obama's health care Rx has dangerous side effects.  Barack Obama is claiming that John McCain wants to run health care like Republicans have been running Wall Street — implying that McCain would let greedy private companies take advantage of average Americans.  The ironic truth is this:  Obama wants to run health care like Washington, and especially Democrats, have been running Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  That's likely to have more troubling consequences for the health of Americans and their economy.

The Anti-JFK:  Obama also told me Tuesday night that I had a "right" to health care.  There's a reason the Declaration of Independence does not read life, liberty, and the pursuit of health care.  Depending on Uncle Sam for health care isn't a declaration of independence — it's a declaration of dependence.

Obama Needs Socialism Lesson.  Sweden provides universal government-backed health care — it isn't even an option; it's compulsory.  That sounds comforting — until the day you might need access to that "free" care.  The current waiting time for hip replacement surgery in Stockholm, the Swedish capital, is 16 months.  It's "only" 13 months to see an urologist.  How about 18 months for transplant surgery?  A little less is the norm for heart-bypasses.

The Doctor Will See All of You Now.  Ted Kennedy and Barack Obama are planning that the new Democratic Congress' first order of business will be to extend the Massachusetts health-care mistake to all 50 states. ... If Kennedy succeeds in his goal of using the Massachusetts plan as a model for national health care, average Americans will no longer get immediate access to medical care.  They will have the long waits and massive new taxpayer costs that the Massachusetts plan has produced.

Obamacare Could Kill You.  This "Federal Health Board," as Daschle refers to his proposed behemoth, would be modeled on Great Britain's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).  In the UK's socialized medical system, NICE is the bureaucracy responsible for determining the value and effectiveness of medical treatments and procedures.  And it regularly hands down death sentences to gravely ill patients.

More about socialized medicine.

Can Obama handle the threat of Islamic terrorism?

No We Can't.  Barack Obama's emphasis on diplomacy and internationalism will do nothing to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons.  The mullahs in Tehran are not open to compromise, and cannot be made any more pliable by the impositions of a stricter sanctions regime.  Any attempts at diplomacy or institution of sanctions are, from here on out, aimed at building an evidentiary case that every non-military option will have been exhausted.  Once that case can be made, Obama will either give the order to bomb Iran or let the Khomeinist regime in Tehran assert complete regional hegemony.  There will not be, nor has there ever been, a third option.

The Presidency Is Not An Entry-Level Position.  Obama has four positions related to the war which, in my view, disqualify him for the presidency.  First, how can a serious candidate for President of the United States have a long-standing goal to end the war rather than win it?  Great presidents don't end wars — they win them.  The only way the American military can be defeated is when American leaders forfeit the fight for them.  And that's exactly what Obama has wanted to do for years.

Can America Afford Another Jimmy Carter?  The economic crisis aside, whether we like it or not, we are truly in a war of survival with Islamofascism and Mr. Obama is not the man who can defend this country.

Obama's Damage:  With his first entry in an otherwise blank foreign policy ledger, Barack Obama sabotaged America's operational relationship with Pakistan.  On August 1, 2007, during a speech at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, Senator Obama said of Pakistan's border with Afghanistan:  "There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans.  They are plotting to strike again ... If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will."  The statement was swiftly criticized by prominent Republicans and Democrats as inept and harmful to American interests.

The Tale of Two Bracelets.  Barack Obama made one thing crystal clear in last night's debate:  He simply doesn't care if we win or lose the war in Iraq.  "Nobody's talking about defeat in Iraq," Obama said — trying desperately to make John McCain stop talking about the single most important decision of Obama's very short career in the US Senate.

Obama Can't Be Trusted on National Defense.  On September 15, the New York Post published an explosive article by Amir Taheri, an Iranian born journalist who has long covered the Middle East for a wide range of publications. ... In the article, Taheri says that Obama has done in regard to the troops in Iraq what Reagan and Bush were alleged to have done in regard to the Iranian hostages. ... I am calling on Obama now to answer these charges, or withdraw from the race, freeing the American people from the trouble of having to impeach him after the election, if he should defy the now lengthening odds and somehow win the race.

Obama And 9/11:  According to Barack Obama, the madness that drove terrorists to turn passenger jets into manned cruise missiles aimed at our centers of finance, government and military power "grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair."  As if the answer to the attacks should have been food stamps for al-Qaida. … In an opinion piece in Commentary magazine, writer Abe Greenwald commented on Obama's belief that the 9/11 attacks were rooted in poverty and despair.  "Strange," he called it, "considering our attackers were wealthy and educated, connected and ecstatic."

What kind of war crimes trials does Obama plan?  Barack Obama's plan for imposing unity on the nation after he takes office apparently entails a close look at war crimes trials for Bush administration officials.  He has even said so in an interview with Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Daily News.  This kind of change — putting your predecessors on trial for their conduct of policy — may not be what most Americans really want or expect from someone with Obama's gauzy rhetoric of unity.

Democrats Dream of Vengeance.  Back in April, Obama told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he intended to have "my Justice Department and my attorney general immediately review" any information that might be used to justify an investigation of the president or his aides.  Like Biden, Obama averred that "if crimes have been committed, they should be investigated."  The Little Green Footballs blog has even turned up an Obama campaign flier about Iraq, promising to "hold accountable any perpetrators of war crimes."

Sen. Obama's 9/10 Mind-Set:  Does Barack Obama think Osama bin Laden has a right to an attorney and should be read his Miranda rights if captured?  As shocking as this is, it's in the proud tradition of his party.  In an interview with ABC News on Monday [6/16/2008], Obama indicated that, like President Bill Clinton in 1993 after the first bombing of the World Trade Center, he too would treat the war on terror as a law enforcement matter.

Don't Catch — Kill.  The first beneficiary of Barack Obama's promise to expand health-care access could be Osama bin Laden.  The senator would rather see Osama captured, not killed, then put into our federal system for trial.  That means the terror master would get better medical treatment — for free — than many [New York] Post readers can afford.  Is that really what Americans want?

Support Terrorists?  Yes We Can!  Can we say that, if elected, Obama would seat more extreme leftist justices like Anthony Kennedy who provided the swing vote in favor of the terrorists?  YES WE CAN!  With a background so murky, can we say that if elected, we don't know what Obama will do, or which side he's on?  YES WE CAN!

Obama's delusional foreign policy:  Obama is wrong about us not talking with terrorist nations.  His ill-informed and shallow position that Bush has failed for lack of talks is wrong.  He is further wrong when he states that he will sit down and talk to terrorists "without preconditions."  Obama's foreign policy position is delusional and is based on intellectual and factual quicksand.  With it, he has forfeited any claim to the votes of thinking people.

Obama's Plan for Defeat:  We know Obama hasn't been to Iraq in more than two years, but does he not read the papers?  Does he not know anything about developments on the ground?

Did I Mention That I'm Noble?  Only now does Obama confer with General Petraeus — with 38 years serving the US — about the Middle East, and he confers, not to listen nor to learn, but to announce what he'd already decided about Iraq which he'd visited once and Afghanistan which he'd never seen and on which the Senate sub-committee he chairs has held not a single hearing.

Obama's Ongoing Foreign Policy Implosion.  Democrats were no doubt looking to capitalize on the Iraq issue before it became apparent that the success of the surge had exceeded all but our most optimistic expectations.  Because McCain is perceived as one of the most ardent proponents of the surge and Obama fiercely opposed it, Obama finds himself caught in a trap over the entire issue.

Obama's Surge Purge:  Barack Obama styles himself the candidate of "change" and "hope".  So when his website "changed" to erase his well-known opposition to the Iraq War surge, maybe the Senator "hoped" no one would notice.  In this day and age, that's a foolish, not to mention cynical, conceit, especially coming from the young, self-proclaimed "progressive" Democrat.  And it backfired.

Hugs for Thugs Could Sink Naïve Obama.  What is it about the word "appeasement" that got Barack Obama's ears ringing?  Without once uttering the freshman anti-war senator's name, President Bush warned against negotiating with terrorists on the futile hope that a little more dialogue will turn these satanic beasts from their death pact to wipe Israel off the map and kill as many American men, women and children as possible.

Obama doth protest.  The problem Barack Obama is stuck with — whether he likes it or not, and he doesn't — is that during this campaign he did in fact say, and moreover did in fact say several times, that as President he would be entirely willing to sit down with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other rogues with no preconditions whatsoever.  That is why, for a second day Friday [5/16/2008], the customarily unflappable Obama rather flappably chose to go on a tear over President Bush's remarks to the Israeli Knesset.  He called those remarks "appalling" and "divisive" and much else, presenting himself as the victim of an untoward attack.  He is no such thing.

Obama And Frank: A Farewell To Arms.  In a revealing meeting with the editorial board of the Southcoast (Mass.) Standard-Times last week, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., called for a 25% cut in military spending, saying:  "We don't need all these fancy new weapons."  Judging from his past comments, Obama seems to agree. He says we should talk to our enemies.  Obama, Frank and the Democratic caucus would have us speak softly and carry no stick at all.

A Waste Is a Terrible Thing to Mind.  On Sunday Sen. Barack Obama, speaking at Iowa State University, made this jaw-dropping statement:  We ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized, and should have never been waged, and to which we now have spent $400 billion, and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted.  Wasted!  Hard to believe anyone would say such a thing, but there it is on video.

Troops not 'wasted'.  Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said yesterday [2/12/2007] he "would absolutely apologize" if he offended military families by saying American troops' lives have been "wasted" in the Iraq war.  It was the second straight day the Illinois senator faced questions on his views on the war — the issue that's proven his strongest foil against front-runner Hillary Clinton, who has so far resisted pressure to recant her vote to authorize the invasion.

Obama is the candidate preferred by these people.

Just imagine Obama's nominees to the Supreme Court

Top 10 Things to Expect From Obama Court:  (# 10.)  Expanding and perpetuating the use of racial preferences … (# 6.)  Banning the death penalty … (# 4.)  Creating new constitutional rights to massive government welfare and medical care programs…

The Final Six Reasons Not To Vote For Obama:  [Scroll down slowly]  One of the most important reasons to vote against Mr. Obama involves his court appointments.  He voted against confirming Chief Justice Roberts and Associate Justice Alito.  This was wrong as both of these jurists were highly qualified and he was voting against them only because they follow the U.S. Constitution rather than make law from the bench.  Mr. Obama would appoint justices of the Associate Justice Ginsburg variety, a leftist who is more interested in her concept of what the law ought to be rather than the concepts of the founding founders as expressed in the Constitution.

Questions for Obama:  Voting against the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts, [Obama] said:  Deciding "truly difficult cases" should involve "one's deepest values, one's core concerns, one's broader perspectives on how the world works, and the depth and breadth of one's empathy."  Is that not essentially how Chief Justice Roger Taney decided the Dred Scott case?

Obama's Constitution:  Obama, if elected, would certainly aim to fill the Supreme Court — and the lower federal courts — with liberal judicial activists.  Although Obama has served in the Senate for barely three years, he has already established a record on judicial nominations and constitutional law that comports with his 2007 ranking by the National Journal as the most liberal of all 100 senators.

Obama's Class-War Court.  When the nomination of John Roberts to be chief justice of the Supreme Court came up in the Senate in 2005, Sen. Barack Obama argued that the role of a justice is to favor the "weak" over the "strong."  When the nomination of Sam Alito came up in January 2006, he made the same argument.  Obama does not want a Supreme Court that preserves the rule of law, he wants a Supreme Court that wages class war under color of law.

Doubting Thomas.  Asked to pick his least favorite Supreme Court justice on Saturday [8/16/2008], Barack Obama named Clarence Thomas. ... If only left-wing Supreme Court Enemy #1 Justice Thomas were more open to legislating from the judicial bench.  Perhaps if he were comfortable with the judicial branch making up laws establishing a constitutional right to same-sex marriage or legal rights for partial-birth abortion or for foreign terrorists he would be the ideal justice for a Barack Obama administration.

Obama Draws Ire Over Comments on Clarence Thomas.  When asked to name a Supreme Court justice he would not have appointed, Obama named Clarence Thomas.  "I don't think that he was a strong enough jurist or legal thinker at the time for that elevation, setting aside the fact that I profoundly disagree with his interpretations of a lot of the Constitution," Obama said.  Conservative legal experts, who championed Thomas for elevation to the court in 1991, were livid at what they say was a personal attack on one of the top justices on the court.

Barack Obama, Doubting Thomas.  Sen. Obama joins the high-tech lynch mob that still thinks Clarence Thomas is unfit for the Supreme Court.  The ex-state legislator with no accomplishments to his name dares to question Thomas' experience.

Obama Supreme Court Candidate Deval Patrick:  Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick is another highly touted contender for a Supreme Court appointment by a President Obama. ... Deval Patrick has made his mark on the law in the field of racial preferences. ... As assistant attorney general for civil rights in the Clinton administration, Patrick — in the words of Jeffrey Rosen in a 1994 New Republic article — "committed the Clinton administration to a vision of racial preference that fulfills the most extravagant fantasies of a conservative attack ad."  Specifically, Patrick argued in a brief in Taxman v. Piscataway that "it is legal to fire a white teacher over a black teacher purely because of her race."

Seeking to Shift Attention to Judicial Nominees.  "Judges are what you refer to as a 'last 30 days' issue, and it's hard to know how it might play," said Evan Tracey, the head of CMAG, a company that monitors political advertising.  "Now is the time when you start hearing messages that connect with the single-issue core voters — guns, abortion, civil rights.  And it's all about judges."

Imagining a President Obama.  "First of all, let's dismiss any talk of socialism," says Democrat strategist Bob Beckel, who worked in Jimmy Carter's White House with a Democrat-controlled Congress. "The idea that Barack Obama is going to bring socialism to this country is just crazy." ... Beckel sees an Obama appointment of Hillary Clinton to the Supreme Court bench as soon as an opening occurs, and he dismisses the massive move toward industry regulations that some people predict.

[Emphasis added.]

To The Undecided Voter:  It is quite possible that Barack Obama will get to make one, maybe two Supreme Court appointments before he's through in Washington.  It is also possible that he will have a filibuster-proof Senate to help him ram those choices through.  I'm a lawyer, and I've always had this strange idea that the U.S. Supreme Court should base its decisions on the supreme law of our land, our Constitution.  Many people think differently these days.  A recent and rather shocking survey showed that around 80% of people who support Barack Obama believe that the Supreme Court should base its decisions not on the Constitution, but on what's "fair."

Obama's Ideas for a Radical Court:  Notwithstanding his support for redistribution in theory, Obama said he was "not optimistic about bringing major redistributive change through the courts."  Let those words sink in for a moment:  major redistributive change.  If his plans for taxation and spending didn't make it plain, Obama's goal should be clear now.  And his objection is simply that the courts aren't very good at carrying out long-term redistribution — not that major "sharing the wealth" shouldn't come from other branches of government.

Obama and the Supreme Court.  If America's citizens care to wake up and pay attention before they elect as president a sweet-talking, moderate-posing left-wing ideologue with a history of alliances with anti-American radicals, one of the several matters they ought to think seriously about is the future of the Supreme Court.  Simply put, the survival of the historic American experiment in representative government will be in serious jeopardy if Barack Obama is our next president.

Obama and the Law:  Senator Obama has stated very clearly what kinds of Supreme Court justices he wants — those with "the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old."  Like so many things that Obama says, it may sound nice if you don't stop and think — and chilling if you do stop and think.  Do we really want judges who decide cases based on who you are, rather than on the facts and the law?

Five reasons to vote against Obama:  [#2.]  The federal courts.  In that famous 2001 Chicago radio interview, Obama wistfully talked about the need for the Supreme Court to break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution.  You know, those pesky constraints that make us a nation of laws, not governed by the whims of the Friends of Obama, or Jeremiah Wright.  You think Breyer and Ginsburg are beyond the pale?  Obama's crowd thinks they're too conservative.

A Brighter and Righter Future.  Barack Obama is a very smart and sophisticated liberal who will appoint activist, left-wing judges to the courts.  The Ninth Circuit Court ruled that saying "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional.  Imagine this anti-religious extremism spreading through the rest of the court system in a wave of Obama appointments.  John McCain can be expected to appoint judges who respect the vital role that religion has historically played in American public life.  Beyond the courts, Obama would strengthen and expand opportunities for trial lawyers to sue.  McCain would focus on litigation reform to reduce the number of lawsuits.

Barack Obama Repeats Pro-Abortion Litmus Test for Supreme Court Judges.  In a Thursday [10/30/2008] interview with NBC News, Barack Obama repeated the pledge he's made throughout the campaign.  Obama indicated he would only appoint judges to the Supreme Court who support unlimited abortions, in what is a clear pro-abortion litmus test for federal justices.

Differences in judicial nominees gain little notice.  During the Democratic primary campaign, Mr. Obama told a Planned Parenthood conference exactly what he would require in a judicial nominee:  "We need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom.  The empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old.  And that's the criteria by which I'm going to be selecting my judges," he said, according to MSNBC.

Voting record clouds Obama's judge picks.  President-elect Barack Obama will be the first president to have participated in Senate filibusters of judicial nominees — a distinction that conservatives say will haunt him in showdowns over anticipated nominations of liberal, activist judges to the federal bench.

Who would Obama pick for the Supreme Court?  Barack Obama's election probably does not herald a new liberal era at the Supreme Court, since none of the conservative justices — who are in the majority — is expected to retire in the next four years.  But if liberals cannot take control, Obama's win has them pushing for a strong voice for social justice on the high court.

Imagine no longer -- here they are!
